On April 15, 2026, the European Union and the United Kingdom have enabled the UK’s association to Erasmus+ in 2027.

The UK’s association to Erasmus+ will place UK learners, staff, education institutions and organisations on the same footing as those in EU Member States and other third countries associated to the programme. It puts people-to-people exchanges at the core of the renewed EU-UK agenda and strengthens cooperation between both sides. This important step delivers on the commitment made at the first EU-UK Summit in May 2025, by adopting an amendment to Protocol I of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement.

“With today’s signing of the Decision associating the United Kingdom to the Erasmus+ programme in 2027, we have delivered on another commitment of last year’s EU-UK Summit. This will enable tens of thousands of citizens to learn, study and train on the other side of the Channel and foster person-to-person ties. We will continue to strengthen EU-UK relations by advancing the remaining objectives of our renewed agenda, aiming to conclude in particular key negotiations on the Youth Experience Scheme, a common SPS area, and the linking our Emissions Trading Schemes by this year’s EU-UK Summit,” said Maroš Šefčovič, Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security; Interinstitutional Relations and Transparency.
